Why sleep, alcohol and recreational marijuana are so tempting

I want to write from my experience why sleep alcohol and recreational marijuana are tempting. Especially the first two. Make no mistake, deep sleep is a pretty healthy motivation. I think it is needed, especially now when we are all dealing with a pandemic.  To really understand this, we have to be logical and reason with something that can be understood easily by human mind. When we sleep, all our senses are temporarily closed, all voluntary muscles take rest. We all know how good we feel after a dreamless deep sleep. Blessed are those who can go to deep sleep at will!, deep sleep is always dreamless.   Alcohol and marijuana also will literally stop the senses. There is no judgement, but the only problem is they have just one caveat which will not serve well in the long term. We feel happy and light because the senses are suppressed, which means once the effect is gone, we get right back into the grind!.  Also, all of us at times have experienced deep concentr...

The first verse of Gita

On some days, the writing just flows! Something I read a few days ago resonates with me deeply. I was able to grasp the true meaning of the first verse of "Gita". I read a book by Paramahansa Yogananda, who I consider a scientific rishi for his propensity to encourage scientific research in all concepts. - I will present what I understood from it and what I have gained from my experiences. To be very honest, I feel like this is the first time I can speak with complete conviction about a topic. Knowledge can be read and understood, but wisdom can only be realized!   The first verse of Gita - (copied from a book) The blind Dhirtarashtra said : " On the holy plain of Kurukshetra, when my offspring and the sons of Pandu had gathered together; eager for battle, what did they, O Sanjaya ? "  Here are the Sanskrit meanings as taught, "Kurukshetra" - field of action (kuru- action, kshetra - field). "Field of action - human body", "Pandu" - w...

My favorite Bhagavad Gita lessons from Mahabharat

Mahabharat is literally epic. If you take a close look at the old myths, add or remove a little bit here and there, you'll get a blockbuster movie/series guaranteed :). They tell us that everything existed since eternity. But they teach a few things that are very practical. There's two things that are worth paying attention to that Krishna tells Arjuna in the battlefield. Extremely difficult to implement, but if anyone can manage that, he/she will be happy! Krishna is the best adviser anyone can get! - btw he was a player ;) We all have a part of that! Yogastha kuru karmaani Meaning: Establish union between body and mind. Take action. Karmanyeva Adhikaraste Maa Phaleshu Kadaachana Meaning : You are entitled only to your action, not to the fruits of your action These are easy to understand  yet so difficult to follow. He says, first create calm in your mind, let the body be in sync with the mind. Then initiate the action you have to do. In other words, there's ...
